POWER ACTION

Dynamic 12 days self-exploration journey in a intercultural context, while acting on topics of LGBTQIA+ Spectrum, inclusion and blending diverse non-formal educational tools

One of the main objectives of the project was the organization and creation of new non-formal learning tools, fostering the important role that non-formal education plays role in combating discrimination and promoting social inclusion and the LGBTQIA+ Spectrum.

Furthermore the project aimed:

  • To identify the LGBTQIA+ needs and challenges nowadays and maintain the knowledge on the LGBTQIA+ rights and spectrum
  • To empower youngsters in their personal growth: to reach emancipation: becoming aware of their identity, self-awareness, self-expression and freedom of choice
  • To exchange on how to organize an activity in their local community (workshops, street actions etc.)
  • To organize and implement new workshops and activities during the Exchange and afterwards in each partner country, raising awareness and boosting the active participation of youth

The Exchange took place in January 2018, at Olde Vechte Foundation in Ommen, the Netherlands.

The project was financially supported by the Erasmusplus Jeugd and the Erasmus+ programme.

TESTIMONIALS

No more censorship of myself!

I learnt that in order to show respect to others I firstly have to accept every aspect of myself. I realised the censorship that I do to myself when trying to express myself and sexuality… so… no more censorship of myself! Also, i had the chance to meet literally colourful people, accept everyone and see the person behind actions, behaviors, and masks. Finally I realised the steps that need to be done in my country and my region and planning to be active and contribute to a better understanding and better life conditions for every oppressed social group.

Self discovery journey

Power action for me was a self discovery journey, which led me to a deeper knowledge of my self, regarding my emotions, my beliefs, my relationships, my way of operating… By the end of the journey, in my backpack I had a lot of new knowledge, not made of cold and sterile data, but made of warm and fruitful personal stories. Along the way I questioned aspects which I had never really paid attention to (as which pronoun to use), habits which I was used to simply accept as they were, I deconstructed concepts which I used to give for guaranteed. As result I left behind a lot of prejudices and stereotypes that I wasn’t even aware to have. Instead, I replaced them with a rich, light and healing appectance of my self and others which is making a change in my relationships and, therefore, in my life.

I feel I accept myself and my identity

The experience meant a lot to me, I learned many new things about intersectionality and the LGBTQIA+ community, I feel I accept myself and my identity more and it inspired me to be more active in my local community, with which I have already began. Besides that it was also a very fun experience and I had the opportunity to connect with amazing people from different countries. I felt like we created a beautiful inclusive universe in those 12 days and it was absolutely wonderful.

I have found my family

I feel that I can truly live now with passion and zest for life, accepting both the sadness and joy fully and completely.

I am a lot more acceptant of myself and loving who I am, and I can express and communicate a huge amount more openly. I have found my family – my flock of swans and I’m no longer the ugly duckling all alone in a grey world. The world is all oh so colourful and full of scents and aroma, and Grace. I wish I could share this feeling of an open heart, this passion, both warming and burning with the world. And I will. And I am.

Because of this project I am finally letting go of my illness (with which I have been struggling for 3 years now). As I get more and more life into me, this part of death leaves.

Forever grateful, with love, magnanimous gratitude and royal gifts for the world.

Getting involved in more projects

First and foremost, I met a lot of amazing people. I listened to their stories, shared my experience with them and created a connection that will hopefully last even after the project.

Secondly, I learned some new things about LGBTQIA+ spectrum, which made me more aware of the problems in my local and even global society. I started to think more broadly about the different ways of how I could personally improve our society; what can I do, how can I include others.

Finally, I realized that I want to travel more and get involved in other similar projects, because it helps me be more open-minded, tolerant and it helps me be more creative. I would like to gain more experience in these projects and then use it to improve the society we live in.
