Testimonials from the German team:
Well, I got a chance to participate in a great project about sports and queer community which much more provided an insight of how amazing things can be if only we could do things the way we want and also minding about each other. For example, we reconstructed the basketball game and it was interesting at the end to see how people enjoyed playing it.
And the funny thing is that by the time I applied, I wasn’t really sure of what I was going to contribute to the project, but in the end, I discovered that it wasn’t about only my contribution but also learning from one another, and I appreciate that I was given that opportunity. I am really grateful for Active Rainbow.

This project has taught me a lot about the queer community and also about myself.
When I applied as an ally, I wasn’t sure if this was the right project for me, although I was curious about it. Normally I am not that much surrounded by queer people and that’s why I didn’t understand some of the “queer insider” jokes at first, which made me wonder if that would be the case during the rest of the time. Fortunately, the other participants were very welcoming and lovely – so they saw me as an equal part of the community since day one. That inspired me and made me think. If it works that way, it should work as naturally the other way around: Make queer people feel welcome, seen and wanted in our society, because in the end we are all just human beings who want to be loved and spread love.

Coming to Play Out! I was expecting to spend lots of time playing all kinds of sports and perhaps being very active, to a point that was a bit scary on my end due to some physical limitations I had. I was wrong, cause the way Play Out! was structured, and how inclusive to any barriers might have occured, made me realise how we can re-construct the norms of sports that have deeply been embedded in our minds, and make it as accessible and fun as possible! So I am very grateful to all the team for being there for us, giving us the space to discover and fall in love with the sports that we have been told we can’t do anymore. Cause we actually can, in our own very unique way.
