To move aims to bring together young queer people willing to explore dance and movement in a safer and braver space, fostering an empowered community.

The project was inspired by the different ways, tools and methods that Active Rainbow likes to use when it comes to embodiment, as well as by our own personal journeys of dance, self-expression and community-building.

TESTIMONIALS

this is only the beginning for me

My name is Aaron (he/him), I’m from Poland. Going to the project „To Move” was an important experience for me, since I have issues with connecting with my body and movement in general. But having an opportunity to explore myself among people who are not judging and create safe atmosphere let me try freely and open more and more with each day.

I met some kind and passionate people and I can confidently say that this is only the beginning for me. I’m thankful that I could be a part of this and take so much with me home.

It was truly magic

To Move was a place where I could feel safe and at home, doing what I love, with people I had just recently met. It was an important experience of learning to take better care of myself and others, through communication, consent and boundary setting.

It was truly magic, Active Rainbow and the facilitators Kris and Vasiliki took incredible care for everything, you could feel that they were really there with us and supporting the learning process as best as they could.

I really loved the venue, to be immersed in nature and live as a community, is something that I think we all need more of in our lives. I am incredibly grateful for the experience and recommend it to all✨️

I reconnected with my body, I felt confident in myself

My experience in “To Move” has been a wonderful journey of exploration, connection and playfulness. I felt very safe and welcome by everyone in the project, and that created the space from me to express without feeling limited and without fear of judgment.

Throughout the project, I reconnected with my body, I felt confident in myself and seeing the other participants also being that, for sure sparked joy and excitement! It has been a pleasure taking on different roles during these days, from bonding with my reflection group as a group leader, to actively learning and engaging as a participant, even becoming a co-facilitator for our street action in Cēsis and performer on the celebratory last day of the project.

My most important learning is how my body is indeed my center of support and how moving releases my tension and regulates my emotions. I definitely recommend this experience to everyone who is interested in exploring themselves and what their body can do, to those who want to connect and bond with other queer people and to those who want to boost their confidence and social skills.

I learned how to connect with myself

“To Move” was an experience about connecting with myself, with others, and with the beautiful Latvian nature. Thanks to this Erasmus+ programme, I have learned several creative and useful skills that go beyond movement.

Firstly, I learned how to connect with myself, which helped me relax and focus on the present moment. Secondly, another important lesson I learned was to communicate assertively and respectfully. This was especially important when my team and I organized the street action performance, when trust and determination was key to success collectively. Finally, everyday tasks such as cooking and cleaning were very enjoyable thanks to the lively company. Together, we enjoyed music while being productive, feeling safe and supported at the same time.

What made this experience truly meaningful were the connections that I made along the way. I made friends and formed more special connections from different countries, and I feel grateful for having bonded with such amazing people. Another special thing that was meaningful to me was connecting with myself and winding down. I was grieving the loss of a loved one right before this project, and so connecting with nature and with this amazing team made me process these emotional struggles way easier.

Overall, “To Move” was an amazing project, and I feel very grateful for this experience we created together. It was not only about moving physically, but emotionally and personally as well.

The project is organized in 2025 by Active Rainbow and funded by the Erasmus+ program and the Jaunatnes starptautisko programmu aģentūra (Latvian National Agency).
